Several years ago the opportunity to produce What's Happening Magazine came to us like a Gift from Heaven. It literally just fell in our laps. We thought that we could easily fill a void we felt was present. Either these publications had no artistic merit to them or were little more than a flyer to let you know what was going on the following week. We felt that was not enough. Our community deserved more, not just a flyer, but something worth holding onto for longer than a couple of hours while out and about. We wanted to educate, but more importantly, we wanted to entertain. Almost 5 years later, we are proud to say that we have influenced the market we entered such a short time ago. The one thing that no one can deny is that we pay attention to the details in this publication. Everything from our covers to our content is meticulously thought out months in advance. We agonize over themes, covers models- the list goes on and on every month. Sure we could take the easy way out and go the route of the status quo and just throw a HOT guy on the over every month and just print local gossip. We felt our community wanted more. A new day in marketing to the GLBT community was dawning and we wanted not only to be in the forefront, but be THE trendsetter of the pack. Of course, due to our innovation and success we have seen many upstarts spring up and imitate our unique format. Although we welcome all competition (after all we live in a free, capitalist country) because it makes us all better, we know that the war is not won as a sprint - but instead in the holding power of keeping our quality consistent marathon style. Sure, we are not the oldest publication but we are the FRESHEST! After all, when has being the oldest been something to brag about in our community. All jokes aside, our inspiration for continuing to produce this publication has never been about the recognition, fleeting celebrity or perks that come in producing a gay magazine (although we must admit... it can make the drudgery of production a little more "worth it") We dive into our magazine every month with gusto because it is our passion. We make sure that we are 100% proud and please with each issue that gets put to bed and distributed throughout the state. We might not be able to make everyone happy, but when we put our heads on our pillows at night we're very at peace with the decision we've made for What's Happening Magazine. In the end, our biggest reason for this labor of love every month is because we adore showcasing all the wonderful and talented individuals that make up our Florida family.
